The original USMC Unertl 8X scope is factory roll-marked “USMC SNIPER”.These different finishes are consistent with known historical examples still in the Marine Corps inventory. The period-correct receiver is finished in a matte black oxide.Despite the unknown usage of the barrel, it fired a 5-shot 1.5 MOA test group at 300 yards with 1970’s vintage M72 match ammunition. It sports a polished blue finish and has an unknown round-count. The barrel remains just as issued, and has not been refinished. The barrel on our rifle is an original Vietnam-era take-off barrel from a USMC Sniper Rifle.So, our rifle is of the same vintage (1942) and is only 564 digits off from the rifle that made Carlos Hathcock famous. Carlos Hathcock’s rifle serial number was 46628. The bottom of the grip is stamped with the original serial number of the rifle this stock once belonged to. Our original “marksman” stock retains the brown Bisonite bedding and surface finish.
